About

I love purpleName: Áine MacDermot

Birthday: 07 June 1958 - Gemini

Places: Facebook, Twitter, DeDanaan.com, Demesnes.net, Stumblers.net, Deviant Art, del.icio.us, and I have accounts at dozens of social networks (most of which I rarely ever visit anymore). Google my name and you’re bound to find me all over the place… I’ve been around for a long time. :)

I’m what’s called an “early adopter” and beta tester. I’ve done beta testing for AOL, Electronic Arts, Adobe, and probably hundreds of smaller software developers. I’ve been the admin of mailing lists, forums, discussion groups, various online communities, as well as a Virtual Reality magazine (3DVRWeb) and its online community forums where about a dozen VR developers (both large and small) were gathered together to discuss their programs and the future of the Internet and Virtual Reality systems.

I’ve written tons of text online: news, fiction, poetry, reviews, tutorials, documentation, and help files. For over a year, I held the position of #2 columnist (specializing in Intelligence and Espionage news) at MSNBC.com-owned Newsvine.com, as well as being the founder of Newsvine’s Help Group where I provided user-to-user tech support, wrote tutorials, and answered a ton of member’s questions.

I’ve once served as the admin of an online game (for around a year) at Blogshares.com, which is a fantasy stock market based on blogs and their incoming and outgoing links.

I’ve helped co-manage a virtual world in the Activeworlds.com system (at the time, it was the largest non-commercial most fully-developed world in that system), where I learned to create models in 3D using Truespace, which were used in-world. I helped coach new builders, cooperatively and collaboratively built large projects, and provided in-world tours to guests, and I was the DJ who provided music in-world.

I occasionally do web design work, usually as a subcontractor working with programmers. I work on the front-end while they work on the back-end. I can build web sites: HTML, XHTML, CSS, and a little PHP, and I’ve sometimes managed to modify various Javascripts to make them do what I wanted them to do… but I am, by no means, a programmer… unless you consider XHTML + CSS programming (which it very well could be seen as). I host a few blogs and my preferred platform is WordPress. If you’d like me to host a blog for you and handle the technical details, contact me and we’ll discuss it. If you are capable of running your own domain and you need a web host, try my friends over at DreamHost… they’ll give you a reasonable price and a very generous amount of server space.

If you need a community liaison for your online development, I am available for employment in that capacity. I would also consider other positions, but your proposal must be something of relevant interest to me, and must ultimately be worth my time and attention (and that doesn’t always translate to money, although money would be helpful).

If you’d like to contact me about any of the above, feel free to message me with a relevant message at Facebook, where I’ll be sure to see it. Or at my email address (below), where I might see it sometime this week… if I remember to check my email, that is. *grin*
